I am the man from IN Judy mentioned. Our name has been spelled so many ways either by intent or accident over the years that to research only one spelling is near impossible. Most researchers agree that it began as "de la Haye" or "delaHay." There are seems to be a common belief that we are "Scotch-Irish" which has been handed down in most branches of the family. Scotch-Irish is a name refering to people in Northern Ireland. They were a mixture of those who had fled Scottland and settled in that section of Ireland and the Irish who lived there.
