Dillard family, famous pioneers of North Georgia Mtns.

The Dillard surname was on the 1830 Census in Rabun Co., GA. The name, and/or kindred names, also appear at various times in Towns Co., Union Co., Lumpkin Co., etc., in the North Georgia Mountain area. Also the Smokey Mountains.

I know for a fact that the name is on the 1830 Rabun Co. Census, as indexed in the new book, High Humor Of The Hills.

This book records a good deal of folk humor and a bit of history about related families of the North Georgia Mountains, Smoky Mountains of NC and TN, and mountain areas of Northeastern AL. It includes over 200 true Appalachian stories of local folk. Many Dillard neighbors, at least, and probably kindred families, are subjects of the humor stories and census index in this book.

The Dillards have been notable citizens especially of Rabun Co., GA, from before 1820, up to the modern day. Dillards from Rabun Co. will surely recognize several of the people or tales in this most unusual book.

I only list it here as a resource of family and cultural interest. Also includes some tables about mountain pioneer families. Here is the link to it:
