James...
Please refer to my prior post dated 4/19/01 regarding the Nova Scotian Archives identifying David Dill as marrying Jane Walker. My focus has been to trace the Walker lines in the Hants County, Nova Scotia, area during the time period in question.
If you wouldn't mind, could you reproduce the descendant list for David and Jane. Thanks!
As far as William Walker arriving in Halifax around 1749... this one is of an interesting story. He, his wife Elizabeth, and daughter Margaret (age 16+), arrived from Lincolnshire, England. He, and a number of other Walkers have been identified on the Cornwallis' Victualing lists of 1750 and 1752. Both Elizabeth and Margaret were dead by the end of 1750. (Re. Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1749-1768, St. Paul's Church, Halifax, Nova Scotia)
Now, according to Peter Wilson Coldham in his "The Complete Book of Emigrants in Bondage, 1614-1775", a William Walker and his wife, Elizabeth, were expelled from Britain, under bondage, for the colonies, in 1749.This William was known under several aliases:"Oldham" and "Everitt."
According to a history of Halifax, Nova Scotia (sorry, I don't have the exact title), due to the frequent hostilities with the Indians of the region, a substantial number of Cornwallis' immigrants migrated to New England from 1751, on.Most Walkers seemed to have disappeared by 1755 for parts unknown. It is entirely possible that some Walkers migrated north into what eventually became Hants and Kings Counties.
The Jane and Elizabeth Walker, of Dill fame, were probably born about 1752-1756, assuming that both were about 19-22 years of age when they married.I also believe that they are somehow linked to Alexander Walker (b. abt 1760) who married Rebecca Shaw on 5/2/1782. All marriages in Windsor, Hants County, NS.
William Walker, my ancestor, married a Jane, about 1773, lived in Rawdon until his death in 1811.William shows up on several property and poll tax lists along with Alexander.
James, I believe that your analysis of John Dill and Sophia Beckwith (b. 2/6/1782), and John Dill and Elizabeth Walker is correct. These Johns', if indeed related, would be son and father.
Keith
