We recently discovered the grave of Lydia Dill Copeland She married James Copeland(son of Nicholas Copeland and Nancy Lott)in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina. Lydia was born may 3, 1750, married James Copeland in Salisbury in 1769, moved with her husband to the Long Island of the Holston, located in Sullivan County, Tennessee. She remained there with her husband and her sister, Mary Dill Yoakley. In 1786 the Copeland moved to Greenville, South Carolina where they purchased land from her cousin Archibald Dill. They remained in Greenville until 1795. They moved to Roane County, Tennessee and to Madison County, Mississippi Territory, in 1809. James Copeland died there in 1811. Lydia moved to Wayne County, Tennessee in the mid to late 1820's with her son James Copeland and his new bride Catherine Gillis. Lydia Dill Copeland had nine children all of which lived to maturity and all but one had children. Lydia Dill Copeland died in February 1830 and her gravestone mentions that she was the daughter of Lydia and Peter Dill of North Carolina. The Dills lived in the Yadkin Valley and had come to this area by 1750. I would be interested in making contact with this Dill family line and discuss this genealogy further.
