GG Grand-daughter of Archibald C. Dill (1748-1840)
Dorthy L. Smith 83 year old resident of Grove, Oklahoma, passed away on September 23, 2006, at the Grove Nursing Center Skilled Care Unit. Dorthy was born on February 1, 1923, in Murphy, Oklahoma, to Tom Dill and Artie Sexton Dill. She graduated Valedictorian from Decatur High School, Decatur, Arkansas, where she ran a grocery store until moving to Midwest City, Oklahoma, to work in the war effort at McDonnell Douglas. After World War II she moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where she received her license from Eaton School of Cosmetology. She then moved to Siloam Springs, Arkansas, where she owned and operated a beauty shop. In 1985 she moved to Grove and continued to operate her beauty shop until 2003, for a total of 56 years. Dorthy loved her work. She also liked cooking, making quilts, and visiting with her family and friends. She was married to Harry L. Smith 64 years ago on February 8, 1942. Dorthy was preceded in death by two sisters Helen Turner and Gladys Harris.
Survivors include her husband Harry of the home; one son, Dr. Jackie L Smith and wife Sharron of Branson, Missouri; two granddaughters, Sydnie L Williams and family of Grove, Oklahoma; Whitney L. Duncan and family of Bentonville, Arkansas; one brother, Wesley Dill and family of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at Wasson Memorial Chapel, Siloam Springs, Arkansas, with the Rev. Wayne Shaw officiating. Burial will follow at Falling Springs Cemetery near Decatur, Arkansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
