This message is for all of you "cousins" out there who are getting frustrated with the "Dill" vs. "Dills" Dill-emma (ha!) I am going to give all of y'all everything I've got, but I'm addressing this message primarily to Gloria Youngdeer, Keith Merck, David Butler, C.F. Dill, and Deborah Swensson because your prior messages had enough names in your inquiries which are similar to those in my own family lineage. To the best of my knowledge, this is how it goes: Thomas Dills was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina in 1745 and died there in 1820. (This is a little murky because the names of those counties were changing by the minute and I think that in 1745 Rutherford was still Tryon County, but anyway...) Thomas Dills was married to Elizabeth Cuzzine. Their children were Bartlett, Sr., Peter, Mary, John, Thomas, and Elizabeth. (The name Elizabeth Cuzzine was listed in a reference book called "Index of North Carolina Ancestors" in the Virginia Room of the library, City of Fairfax, Fairfax County, Virginia. It is VREF 929.3756, Index V.1/2, and the information would be found through the North Carolina Genealogical Society under Code #17135 if anyone wants to double check it. I also found a reference to the marriage on the net through "Shawna's Genealogy Home Page".) Bartlett, Sr. was born in Rutherford County, NC in 1770 and died in Haywood County, NC in 1843. He was married to Susan Henson, whose parents were Phillip Henson and Susannah Briscoe. Bartlett and Susan had the following children: Peter, Bartlett, Jr., Phillip, Sarah, Thomas, John, and William. My line now follows on up through Phillip Dills. Phillip was born in Rutherford Co., NC in 1808 and died in Jackson County, NC in 1905. He was married to Mary Buchanan whose parents were John Buchanan, Jr. and Rebecca Ramsey. George Washington Dills was born in Dillsboro, NC in 1834 and died in 1922 in Blairsville (Union County), GA (Listen up, Deborah Swensson!!) George Washington Dills (and, by the way, to the best of my knowledge, the name is "Dills" with the "s"), married Margaret Clement (whose parents were Josiah Clement and Hannah) and all of their children were born in Blairsville, GA. They were: Theodore Napollian (that's how they spelled it), Columbus Washington (Lum), Theodocia Victoria (Docia -- my grandmother), Kansas Cordelia, William Allen, Mary Ida, Phillip Leondas (Lon), Alice Bell, Frank Clingmon, and Elbie Ettar. To Deborah: notice the use of patriotic names. I see there is a Robert Lee in your family. Also notice that one of the children was Mary Ida. You have an Ida May Dill(s) in Georgia. I don't know, but this may be worth looking into. I hit a roadblock with Thomas Dills and have begun checking ships' lists. (I noticed a reference from David Butler that Thomas's parents were Peter and Ann. I'm going to check into that) As far as I can tell, Thomas Dills's parents may have come from Virginia. I have found two references in ships' lists for a "Thomas Dill" on the "Susan" from London to Virginia in 1687. It may be a grandfather or great-grandfather. Also, I found a reference to a "Thomas Dilles" to Virginia in 1637 through the Charles River Company. If I find out anything else, I'll let you know. I hope some of this will be helpful to you. Good luck and happy hunting!! Cuzzin' Carolyn
