Lydia Dill is my 5th great-grandmother. She and I have the same birth month and day. I saw her tombstone in Hardin County while attending our Copeland Family Reunion last year and was wondering if anyone had any info on her family line. She was the daughter of Peter Dill and they lived in Salisbury, NC. Lydia married James Copeland in 1769 and they moved to South Carolina and then to Alabama where James Copeland died in 1812. She then moved to Tennessee in 1820 and died in 1830 in Hardin County and is buried on a family farm with about twenty-five other graves. Her son, James Copeland, Jr. b. 1791 SC is burried next to her. The Dills according to Carolina Cradle by Robert Ramsey,Univ. of NC Press, (Chapter XI, p.106-107, 131) says that JOHN and PETER DILL along with the THOMAS and HOWARD families were in the Shenandoah Valley in 1746 and settled on the banks of the Yadkin River. I found the land records to support this claim. This book says that the Dills were from Maryland before 1675 and that John Thomas was from Delaware. Both families are interrelated. There are a large number of DILL families from both Maryland and Delaware. Does anyone have any idea which branch of DILLS that John and Peter Dill are from? Any information or even speculation would be appreciated. Thanks to all of you who respond, and I will be happy to share what information I have as well. Carrie D.
