The name Dighton comes from England. Originaly De Dyghton in the 12th century. Late was spelled both Dighton and Dieghton in different parts of England. Dighton Rock was named for the town of Dighton which it is near. The town was named for the the family Dighton when the gentleman who settled there married a Ms Dighton who came from England to marry him.
