There was a Marsall Diggs that married a Lydia Hinson (versus a Judith Haley). Although I am still in the process of obtaining proof, it looks like that linegae does come from Edward/Dudley/Cole/William Diggs.

My criteria is multiple sources and documentations such as wills, etc.

Since Marshall and William are fairly common names, I suspect there was definitely more than one William and one Marshall in Anson COunty at the same time.

I can trace my lineage from me to marshall with not gaps or doubts, so making sure I can trace back to my origins is important, no matter where it leads.
