The Diggs of Mathews, Va. descended from John DEGGE who patented land in Kingston Parish, Gloucester, Va.(now Mathews County) in the late 1600s. Perhaps some of the DIGGES' from York County migrated to Mathews, but I haven't been able to prove that. You can see the Land Grant for John DEGGE on the Library of Virginia web site in the Digital Collections section. My mother's relatives have lived in the area of that grant up until now.
