My GG Grandmother was Susan Diggle from Heywood/ Bury who married John Royds - they then lived in Spotland /Lanehead / Rochdale. This family were staunch Wesleyan Methodists - I think I have seen this against another Diggle posting as well.

Can anyone recognize my Susan :
Marriage :
Registration District; Bury
Marriage Solemnized at : St Luke's Chapel
In the Parish of: Heywood in the County of Lancaster
Entry: 29
Date: Aug 16th 1842
Names:
John Royds Susan Diggle
Age
Of Full Age Of Full Age
Condition: Bachelor Spinster
Occupation: Spinner
Address: Heywood Heywood
Father:
Matthew Royds Robert Diggle
His Occ: Overlooker Collier
According to the Rites & Ceremonies of: The Established Church by banns
Witness:
John Ashworth Joseph Diggle

You can see from this that Susan's father was Robert.
I believe I have now also identified her mother as Rachel Barlow. (Only just found a very likely birth for Susan and marriage for Robert and Rachel as recent additions to IGI website)

This is Susan Royds nee Diggle (widowed) in 1881 census (Knacks is where my Diggle m Royds m Simpson m Ashworth family were living end 1800s, early 1900s:

Dwelling: Knacks
Census Place: Spotland, Lancashire, England

Elizabeth A. ROYDS U 25 F Heywood, Lancashire, England
Rel: Daur
Occ: Woollen Weaver
Rachel ROYDS U 20 F Shead, Lancashire, England

I note the Rachel as I again have seen reference to this as a Diggle christian name.I have some notes my mother wrote and she mentions both Lily Diggle (short for Elizabeth ?) and Eddy Diggle (short for Edward or Edmund ?)(played the organ) as coming to visit. Lily Diggle was living in Liverpool in mid 1920s and from my mother's note I would expect her to be aged 30 - 40.

Mary Royds my G Grandmother was born 19/02/1847 daughter of Susan and John above :

Regd: 25th February 1847

Also have a Joseph Diggle as a witness to marriage of
Mary Royds with Samuel Simpson. Wesley Chapel Castlemere Street (Methodist) 03/07/1873

Help please does this ring any bells.
