Thanks, but I was just curious about the Low/Lowe spelling change between generations. I'd love to be able to track non-consanguine lines (usually more interesting than one's very own!) but haven't the leisure to do that.

I'm afraid I haven't any Harps in my data.

Apropos of a French background for Diffee, it fits with Robt. Burgoon, whose father emigrated from France. That early on, one would have tended to stick with one's own original ethnic group, if only for the sake of more mutually intelligible domestic conversation.
