Hi Valerie, Look for Wm Diffey 1790 1800 Abbeville, SC.He appears to be Abbigail Reid, James Diffey, and Charles Cowell Diffey's father. In 1826 their brother Wm. who served War of 1812, was also in Jefferson County, Alabama. I have copy of court record from Huntsville, Alabama area mentioning Wm. Diffey of Jefferson County 1822. I think you will find Charles as Doffey in 1850 Jefferson County census.
These Diffeys of Jefferson County are also related to John Diffy of Benton County, Alabama. If interested let me know and I'll give you plenty guess work. John Diffey
