Alexander Diffey married Mary Low in 1804. Alexander died near Ellicott City, MD on 24 April 1869 in his 94th year, according to obituary. His wife Mary died 2 Aug 1862 near Ellicott Mills, in her 93rd year, also according to obituary.

Alexander is listed on 1790 census as Alexr Defy in Baltimore County with 2 males 16 & over and 2 females. He is listed on 1800 census as Alexr Deffee in Anne Arundel County, listed next to Robert Burgoon and Prudence Lowe.

The Victor Diffey mentioned in the previous follow-up was most probably a son of Alexander & Mary (Low). Victor was born 4 July 1805 and died in Baltimore 18 October 1888 of old age & exhaustion according to death certificate. Victor is buried in a cemetery in Oella, MD (just outside Ellicott City). Victor wed Therea Chalp 17 May 1827 and later wed Mary Ann Midkerf 25 Dec 1831.

My ancestor was Mary Ellen Diffey who wed Dennis Reynolds 30 March 1841 both from Elk Ridge Landing, Anne Arundel County. I believe she was also a daughter of Alexander & Mary.

Earliest record I've found in Maryland was a court record mentioning a Bryan Diffee in 1704/1705. The next record I located was a deed in Anne Arundel County in March 1753 which named Mary Diffey. She was living on a plantation owned by Stephen Bordley in ElkRidge, MD and had found a stray grey mare.
