This is a long shot but from my lineages in MO I crossed an entry re: John St Clair 44 yrs in 1900 (WM and S) with three children Theodosia b 1882 MO; Thomas b 1978 Kansas; and ALVA "4/12" (sic) [ child ? b 1888-1896 MO; or wife ? 41-42yrs ?] found in 1890 MO census material. There appears a classic tradition for at least four or more generations to give names to children of this line beginning with an A - ARLEIGH, ALVA, AVIS, ALVON, ARTHUR,..? This common but ancient naming tradition dates back to the 900s AD and further in the Provence for children of heads of migrating and conquering germanic and Danish tribes/clans from Jutland where memory rather than writing passed history to succeeding generations and guarded inherited positions - the origins of germanic royalty. It continues today in some families for many generations such as my own which also passed names beginning with A denoting direct descendancies. If so for the St Clairs perhaps this coincidence of ALVON ARTHUR and ALVA, given the circumstances of the St Clair lines, might fit. Good Luck !
