I have a Bernhardt? (Bernhard,Bernard) Dietz,
who was born May, 1857 somewhere in Germany. He was born around the same time as your Friedrich Dietz, born Aug. 17, 1859. I don't know if there is a connection or not.

Bernard immigrated in 1884 to New York and married Christina Staab in 1887. This would make him about 27 when he immigrated.
