I am still trying to get the facts correct on Maria Eliz. Dietz from Schoharie County, NY who md. Jacob Weidman, one of the first settlers of Berne, Albany County, NY.
As to Jacob's origins I am now relying primarily upon "Families of Herkimer, Montgomery & Schoharie," by William V.H. Barker which essentially says JACOB WEIDMAN - the Hans Jacob bp Steinmaur, Switzerland 28 Oct 1720 (son of Felix Weidman & Anna Huber [IGI]);...We strongly suspect this man was the Hans Jacob Weidman, born Switzerland 22 Oct 1720, son of Felix, who was unmarried when he emigrated from Bachs, Switzerland to America ca 1738-43 [Faust's "Lists of Swiss Emigrants in the Eighteenth Century to the American Colonies", pg 34]."
The next "fact" I have on Jacob is his marriage #1) 15 Sep 1743 to Elizabeth Scheid / Overbaugh at the Zion Luth. Ch., Loonenburg (Athens), Greene Co., NY.
Jacob md. #2) Maria Elizabeth Dietz bpt 13 Nov 1712 Vielbach, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany d/o Johan Peter Dietz and Anna Eva Becker. (Source: 1)Palatine Families of NY and NJ, Some Later Arrivals 1717 - 1776, by Henry Z Jones; 2) Families of Herkimer, Montgomery & Schoharie, by William V.H. Barker: He cites "More Palatine Families" by Henry Z. Jones Jr (1991) and says that Anna Eva Becker is "erroneously called ENGELTE WEINER in "The Dietz Family" by George F. Dietz, NYC 1956 [w. appendix by Stanton L. Dietz, Athens, Ohio) [This mis-identification is in the D.A.R. Patriotic Index, and most sources that I have found that predate Jones' 1991 book. Even Wm. V. H. Barker evidently had had it wrong in his 1985, at then unpublished manuscript]
There was a baptism on 12 Dec 1745 in the Loonenburg Luth. church, Loonenburg (Athens), Greene Co., NY of Elizabeth Dietz, d/o of Johannes Dietz (Maria Elizabeth Dietz's brother) and Marijte Overbaugh (sister of Jacob's first wife). According to the church records, the sponsers were "Jacob Weidman and wife Lis." Undoubtedly relying upon this baptism record, Henry Z Jones, in his "Palatine Families ...." says of Maria Elisabetha Dietz "She md. Jacob Weidmann by 1745 (HJ)."
Questions:
1) Who was Jacob's wife "Lis" at the 12 Dec 1745 baptism, #1 Elizabeth Ovebaugh, or #2) Maria Elizabeth Dietz?
2) When did Jacob marry Maria Elizabeth Dietz? (My records show they were md. 11 Dec 1750, but I don't have a source noted.)
3) Who is the mother of Jacob's children:
Wilhelm b. 1745 Greene, Co.,
Jacob Jr. bpt 08 Nov 1747 Reformed Church, Germantown, Columbia, NY, and
Peter b 12 Jul 1749 Greene Co., NY.
Jacob and Maria Elizabeth Dietz's last two children were born in Berne, NY:
Annatje 19 Jam 1751, and
Adam bpt. 03 Jun 1754.
