I am endeavoring to verify information about my great-great-grandfather which has been gathered by myself and other family members. John Charles (possibly Johann Karl) DIETZE was born in Lutzen, Prussia, on 26, October, 1794. John Charles was a weaver by trade. About 1825 he married Johanna Concordia LEE, who was born in Lutzen, Prussia, about 1793. They were married in Lutzen, Prussia and raised a family there. Sometime in 1840 John Charles, his wife, Johanna, a son Charles, a son Frederick Albert, a daughter Elizabeth, and another son (name unknown) emmigrated to Canada. They first settled in the Gormley area of Markham Township of what was then Upper Canada (now the Province of Ontario.) Charles and Elizabeth remained in Markham Township. John Charles, Johanna and Frederick Albert purchased land from the Canada Company in the Huron Tract at Lot 31 Concession 3, Ellice Township, Perth County, Upper Canada. John Charles, Johanna and Frederick Albert were of the Evangelical Lutheran faith. We do not know how many children were in the family; however, we know that some of the children stayed in Prussia. I would be appreciative of any advise on where to start looking for information on these people. I would also like to have information on what port they sailed from, the ship they sailed in and the port of entry into Canada. Apparently there were many records lost due to fires, wars, and government decisions in both Europe and in Canada about this time. Thanks in advance. Bob Dietz
