It appears that the father of Levi Diehl was the George Deihl that died 22 FEB 1826, likely buried Newburg Church of God. I would love to know details from his estate papers, since Levi was the executor. George's wife Catherine died 7 FEB 1856 and definitely buried Newburg COG(see Zeamer collection of tombstone inscriptions). George Diehl had 1. Lydia, b. 8 MAY 1800, married David Fogelsanger, 2. Levi, b. 1806 of which you know more, and Simon, b. c1813 and likely more.
George Diehl had a proven brother Peter Diehl who died c1815, when George Diehl and Adam Shoemaker were administrators of the estate. I would love to see the admin papers and the orphans court records to see the list of children who had guardians appointed. My "best guess" of Peter and Ester Rotz' children is: 1. Peter, b. DEC 1803,m. Nancy___, 2. Mary Elizabeth b. 5 SEPT 1805, m. Wendel Fogelsang, 3. John b. 18 NOV 1807, m. Jane Laughlin, 4. George b. 30 OCT 1809, m. Sarah Ann Barnhart, 5. Nancy, m. Samuel Grove.
See the obit of George Daihl 1809-1887 that I posted today. It proves that George's father died c1814-1815, when George was 5, which matches the 1815 Administration of Peter Diehl, and George was raised by his namesake uncle George Daihl of Middle Springs. Appreciate anything you can add to this puzzle!
According to "Biographical Annals of Cumberland Co., p. 551-3. George Diehl came to Cumberland County to Lancaster Co, but I have been thus far unable to link George and Peter to an eastern PA county.
