Richie: Thanks for your email. We are indeed speaking about the same Philip Diehl. This is a difficult family to research: I've counted over 40 different spelling variations to this simple surname, so don't get hung up on one particular spelling. Philip Diehl himself wrote his name as "Philip Deahl". He saw very extensive service in the Revolutionary War, at the young ages of 17-20. He married Susanna Kunkle before 1790 in Northampton County, PA and he then moved to Westmoreland County, PA in 1793-1794, as best as I can tell. He actually bought the land in Clarion County, PA as early as 1812 according to land records. I am still trying to see how his father Philip Diehl and family ended up in Northampton County, PA from Long Island, NY but this is still unclear. Philip Deahl born in 1763 died in Clarion County some time between 1840 and 1850 and was probably living with one of his many sons and he did not appear as a family head after the 1840 Census. I suspect he is buried in Clarion County, probably in Elk Township but he could literally be in any township there(or even in Venango County). Send me your contact info and I'll keep you apprised, in case our email addresses change. Thanks cousin, Phil Scaglione.
