I am not sure if this is any help but I purchased a book at a garage sale on the weekend that is titled "The Dicksons in North America 1833-1982". In it there is a Robert Dickson 1825-1905 who "was a teacher who became a lawyer and was named to the office of Registrar of Deeds by the government of the USA in his adopted state, North Dakota." He had several children, one of them being a Robert Melvin Dickson 1865- died 19 Nov 1902, Langdon, North Dakota. There is no additional information on Robert Melvin. Good luck in your search - Stan
