Russell, The list of children you have posted for John Dickson II is very interesting. The son, John Dickson, born 1769 and died about Oct 1822 could be my John M Dickson who died not too long after he arrived in Hardin County TN in 1820. He was listed among the first settlers in Brazeleton's History of Hardin County Tennessee. His wife's name was Elizabeth Dickson and she is in the court minutes in 1824 being named guardian of her "infant" children. Their names were: William N. Dickson, born SC abt 1808 Alexander R. Dickson, born SC abt 1812 Jane Dickson [?Smith], born SC late 1810 John H. Dickson, born TN 14 Oct 1818 [my direct ancestor] Other children of theirs whose place of birth and date I am not sure of included: Anne, Sarah and Nancy. There is a John and Lydia Dickson acquiring land abt 1760 in Mecklenburg Co NC. They sold it in 1779 and the land at that time would have been in Cabarrus Co NC. This was one of the follow-up messages in the "Dickson Land Grants of the 1760s" in this genforum discussion. For all this to work for me, my John M. Dickson would have had to have been on some of the land the Duplin Co NC Dicksons entered early before 1772, when the line between NC and SC was changed and some of the land formerly in NC became SC. My John M. Dickson was definitely in SC in the 1810 Census. There were four and the ones I am trying to research the most is the one in Pendleton Dist. and the one in Chesterfield Co. Chesterfield Co is just below the NC/SC line. All early domuments of Chesterfield were lost years ago when the Courthouse burned. Just my luck. Do you know if your "Creek" Dicksons in upper Middle TN came to TN from SC or NC? Barbara Pendergrast Notify Administrator about this message?
