I am also interested in the DICKSON family out of Duplin Co. NC. Alexander and John were likely brothers with John moving down to SC. Dates are important because Alexander and John had a nephew Col. John DICKSON (s/o Robert) who was was also a surveyor and ended up in Cumberland County, NC. The names Alexander, John, Michael, William, Joseph, etc. were repeated generation after generation in several family lines so it is easy to get the people confused. I belive the Alexander and John you mention had another brother, Joseph DICKSON, who moved to Dickson Co. TN and his Will is on Page 1 of the Dickson Co. TN Will book. This Joseph DICKSON married Jane MOLTON. He should not be confused with your Gen. Joseph DICKSON of Rutherford Co. TN or Joseph DICKSON who lived on Bartons Creek in Montgomery Co. TN. Fact is...I could use some help with my wife's DICKSON line. The name was Hugh DICKSON who bought 150 acres on Dry Branch in Dickson Co. TN in 1803. He has previously been mistakenly attached to Joseph DICKSON and Jane MOLTON but it was a case of mistaken Identity. My group of DICKSONs appear to come to upper-middle TN out of Greene or Jefferson Co. TN (far East TN)ca. 1803 to 1807. That part of East TN was previously part of NC and briefly part of the failed State of Franklin. Naming patterns and locations suggest a tie between our Dickson Co. families to the Duplin Co. group but I'm at a loss in naming parents for four guys I call: Dry Branch Hugh DICKSON, Dickson Co. TN d. ca. 1847 Raccoon Creek John DICKSON, Dickson Co. TN d. ca. 1821 Bear Creek James DICKSON, Dickson Co. TN then Perry Co. TN Bartons Creek Joseph DICKSON, Montgomery Co. TN d. ca. 1839 Got anything that might help me? Russ James of Houston Co. TN Notify Administrator about this message?
