Yes, I did review the DICKSON loose papers file.Much of the information on my lines of interest came from Dr. Lenox BAKER of Duke University, NC.He was a serious and respected genealogist.
Having said that...I find myself in disagreement with him on two important points. My Hugh DICKSON (Dry Branch) was not Joseph's son Hugh DICKSON who died in Franklin Co. AL.Virtually all the books have this incorrect and I'm certain I am correct on this one.
The second one is less certain.Dr. BAKER claimed descent from Joseph & Jane's son Robert and Dr. BAKER had traced him to Madison Co. TN.This was Dr. BAKER's ancestor but I believe his Robert DICKSON was NOT the son of Joseph but rather he was the son of the guy I call Raccoon Creek John DICKSON.My evidence is circumstantial but we do have a document said to be written by a granddaughter of Joseph & Jane that says her "Uncle Robert DICKSON" married a TONEY but he died a week after they married. There is a female TONEY buried in the same cemetery as Hugh DICKSON in Franklin Co. AL.
We know the Robert DICKSON of Madison Co. had married a Patsy/Peggy MORRISON (probably second marriage) and her father (William MORRISON) was a purchaser at the estate sale of Raccoon Creek John DICKSON.William MORRISON left a Will in Dickson County and mentions his DICKSON grandchildren since both his daughter and son-in-law had predeceased him.All the evidence I have connects Dr. BAKER's Robert DICKSON to Raccoon Creek John DICKSON thus far.I wish he were still alive so we could discuss the issue.
Also, I have pictures of Dr. BAKER and Dr. A. C. DICKSON of Donelson, TN (a known descendent of Dry Branch Hugh DICKSON) both pictures came from that file at the TSLA.The resemblance of Dr. BAKER and Dr. DICKSON is striking! They could be of the same man!
