Kim, Thank you so much for posting this. I am a gggggranddaughter of Joseph Dickson. For anyone who is interested, his old plantation home was near Mount Holly, North Carolina. There was a plaque on the highway that read "Joseph Dickson Colonel in Revolution later brigadier general member of legislature of N.C. and Tenn. and of U.S. Congress. His home stands 1/2 mile." The family erected a monument to his memory in the Boyd Cemetery, which was previously a part of General Dickson's apple orchard, about 5 miles northeast of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The monument reads, "General Joseph Dickson A Hero of the Battle of King's Mountain with aid of his vote and influence in N.C. Constitutional convention, this very soil became part of the United States of America. Distinctions. Captain, Major, and Colonel in American Revolution, and later General in militia. As major, one of leaders of troops from Lincoln Co., N.C. In Battle of King's Mountain. State Senator of N.C. 1788-94. Member of U.S. House of Representatives 1799-1801. Member of two Committees of Safety in N.C. One of first trustees of University of N.C. Member of House of Representatives of Tenn. 1807-11 and Speaker 1809-11. Officer in Masonic Lodge. Elder in Presbyterian Church. Resided in Pa., N.C., Tenn., built and lived in two-story double log house near this site. This memorial contributed in 1973 by his descendants."
