Here is what I have discovered so far. My GG Grandmother Hannah ? Dickson, b. 1872? (she was 48 when the 1920 Jersey City Census was prepared). Someone who works for the State Vital Records department filled in the name Julius Dickson for her spouse. (This I'm not sure of!) My Hannah had two sons that I know of and they are both listed on the 1920 Census...without Julius. My Great Uncle, James Dickson, was born Jan 24 1892 and died in Feb 1977. In 1920, he was married to Marion ? Dickson. I have no other information on them other than James lived and died in Hudson County.
My Great Grandfather was Alonzo Dickson, b. April 1894. He was married to Catherine Martin Dickson in the year ?. They had one son, James William Dickson, b. June of 1919. (This is my grandfather. Alonzo Dickson died in April of 1929 in the Hudson County Insane Hospital. (I have no idea what his cause of death is).
I have the following address for Alonzo and Catherine:
699 Newark Ave (1919)(this might have been Catherine's parents address), 292 Halladay Ave (1917-1920), and 224 Van Horne Street (1922-23).
Possible Relatives (lived in Jersey City):
JAMES DICKSON b. 1837 Ireland
ANNIE DICKSON b. 1848 Ireland
JOHN W. DICKSON b. 1863 NJ
HANNAH DICKSON b. 1866 NJ
REBECCA DICKSON b. 1866 NJ
VICTORIN DICKSON b. 1869 NJ
JAMES DICKSON b. 1871 NJ
MARY A DICKSON b. 1874 NJ
ALONZO DICKSON b. 1877 NJ
Does this information help you? You can e-mail me directly at [email protected]. I'm working with another woman who's Dickson's came from Jersey City. (Her's are the ones listed directly above).
