Dear Bennett,
I am curious about what you know of the Moores! I am descended from Alexander Moore, son of John the immigrant. I have a copy of John's obituary (b. before 6/30/1719 d.6/30/1806 I reckon you have it too? I've seen these dates in a previous post you made. Is this their source?). As I mentioned to you a while back on the McCord site, I also have a chart by my greatgrandfather Dr. Walter William Moore of Union Seminary here in Richmond (compiled between around 1880 to 1926) which has some good information. I think its interesting because it is so old. He knew lots of his older relatives and wrote constantly to build his knowlwedge of the family. it measures about 2' x 3 1/2'!
I have information on James Moore (2/15/1764-1838) who married Eleanor Irwin. Dr. Moore's chart says they went to Tennessee in 1790. I have told others the legend they still talk about in Stanley NC. I heard it from Jack Moore, in his 80'. James's dog who followed his wagon out to his new farm ("Mooreland?") near Nashville came all the way home on his own. The Jane Moore you are discussing as his daughter is also on the chart, but no data. However, her sibligs are listed as: Robert Irwin, John Alexander, William, Sinai G., and James. He shows Sinai Moore as b. 1804 d. 1873 and married to Sarah Louise Quinn in 1837.
As I said before, there is a another Dickson Moore marriage. I posted a remark about this on the McCord GenForum. However, Dr. Moore got that one wrong. Minnie Van Valin in her book says it was James Dickson who married Agnes Nancy Moore, not Thomas. This book also has full transcipts of William, Alexander and John's Revolutionary War pension applications as well as will and land records (though no census data, I have some now which authenticates the immigrant's obit, I beleive).Do you know if James Moore applied for a pension in TN?
I hope you two will contact me if you need old Moore information. Mine is not limited to this chart. I have two Van Valin books and a mountain of paper. One thing we Moore and Dicksons should be working on is where in Ireland we lived. I have five published Dickson letters written to relatives in Dromore Ireland from the 1780s. It was in "Footprints in Time: The Gaston Lincoln Genealogical Society" newsletter Winter year four '90-'91. There is a legend we came from the same place.
Sincerely, Walt Moore
