My grandfather was Lawrence "Dick" Dickinson from South Dakota. He came from a family of about 19 siblings - he was at or near the bottom and did not know many of them. Family history has been difficult to piece together. Rumor is they came to South Dakota via Quebec to homestead. Great Grandpa Dickinson is rumored to have come to Quebec from Missouri near the end of the Civil War. Lawrence married Esther Vittatoe; the Vittatoes also supposedly from Quebec.
My son has started a school project about his family, and hence, started the interest. Familiar to anyone?
