This Richard W is actually Richard Whitlow Dickinson who was the youngest of 9 children born to Henry Dickinson (b.1778 Westchester Co., NY) and Eleanor Whitlow (b.1784). They married in 1800 and had Elizabeth (b.1803), Reuben (b.1805), Jane (b.1808), Martha (b.1810), Henry W (b.1812), Josiah (b.1815), Eleanor (b. 1817), Adaline (b.1821), and Richard W (b. Apr 1822 Green Co., NY). Henry Sr died in Aug 1822, and one source stated erroneously that he died in 1826 when Richard W was 4 years old, so I think someone probably subtracted 4 yrs from the actual death date and got 1818. But Richard W was 4 months old, not years, when his father died and he was too young to know the discrepancy, We have a 200 yr old family bible belonging to Henry Sr and also the bible of Henry Jr (our line). But another good source is Marguerite S Dickinson's "Descendants of Capt John Dickinson and Elizabeth Howland of Long Island, NY" (c.1965) pp 12-16. Here's more info on Richard: After his father died, he was farmed out to Thomas Kingsford of the Cornstarch Co in Oswago NY. He went to Michigan to study surveying. Then with his brothers Josiah and Reuben they went to Parkersburg, W Va to surve for the Kananawa Branch of the B & O Railroad. They were all there in the 1850 Census including sister Adaline wife of Rufus Holbrook. He married Jan 1848 at Cedar Grove Parkersburg W VA Laurentine Hannah Kincheloe, dt of Daniel and Hannah (Butcher) Kincheloe on whose farm they had been surveying. In 1856 the Daniel Kincheloe family and Richard Dickinson family moved to Carrolton MO. Richard was a Civil War soldier with the Union forces. He died Dec 1868 , buried at Carrolton. Children include Daniel Kincheloe Dickinson, Nellie, Charles Henry, Rose Lee, Fannie Louise, Carrie Martin, Martha Roxanna, William Richard, and Harriet Victoria. Please email me if you would like more info, especially tracing back further. You'll be interested to know Richard W has Mayflower ancestry.
