More information on Dickinson/Powell connections: Henry Dickinson b. 1778 was the son of Zebediah Dickinson and Elizabeth Powell, the 12th child of Moses Powell. Henry and Eleanor (Ellen) named their first child Elizabeth after Henry's mother. Moses Powell was a descendant of Thomas Powell of Bethpage, L.I., NY. Henry Dickinson Jr. born 1812 married Martha Powell born 1818, dau of Samuel T Powel and Martha Luk Powel. Other siblings of Martha were Benjamin, Mary, and another sister; the sisters married a Burroughs and a Houghtaling. Henry Sr. died in 1822; his widow Eleanor (Ellen) remarried a Powel. The first name is not given but brother-in-law was John Norbury Powel, death date recorded in Dickinson family bible. According to Marguerite S. Dickinson's "Descendants of Capt John Dickinson and Elizabeth Howland of Long Island NY", Eleanor (Ellen) was dau. of Richard and Martha Whitlow of England. (Family Bible states she was born 1784 Cheschire, ENG) They must have come to Westchster Co NY between 1790-1800. The Thomas Powell info I saw did not list a Samuel T. so it is unknown if he was related to Moses, or who Eleanor's 2nd husband was. She outived him too, as she was buried with sn Henry Jr and daughter-in-law Martha in Greene Co NY I think. (Check Marguerite ref) In census records I remember that Elisha Powell, brother of Henry's mother Elizabeth, was listed as head of household and living next to Dickinsons in 1790.
