I just happened to find (at http://family.search.org), that George Dickinson married Mary Griffin on 19 June 1808 at the Dutch Reformed Church, Coxsackie, Greene Co., NY. Coxsackie is on the west side of the Hudson River, directly west of Canaan/Chatham/New Lebanon, where the family of George Dickinson (1738-1813) lived. I'd say that your George almost certainly was George, Jr. Incidentally, in Bolton, Warren County, NY, where three of Christopher Dickinson's sons went, around 1800, there were a number of Griffins and Bennetts. I'm not sure where they came from, but there seem to have been several families from the Canaan area that went there at that time.
