The Dickinson family of Salem County is difficult because so many families used the same first names (what else is new?). Ann Adams, granddaughter of John Fenwick, who started the Quaker colony at Salem, married John Dickinson. Probable children: John, Fenwick, Joseph, George, William (1696-1764), Mary, and Jonathan. I descend from Jonathan's daughter, Mary, who married Peter Popeno.I believe (but am not sure)that William Dickinson, 1740-1797, who married Hannah Smith, was the son of William above. Hannah's will listed three children: David (who married Keziah Brick; Smith, unm; and Hannah, who married Henry S Cozens. William died intestate and David and William Brick (Keziah's father) were made administrators on 19 April 1797. (Calendar of Wills, p 108) Charles Sheppard, an early and prolific genealogist of the area, thought there were four other children: Mary 1765-, John 1768-, Samuel 1771-, and Smith 1776 who died in infancy and was replaced by a second Smith 1779-1804. I have not seen Sarah, Jacob and Charles shown as children of William and would appreciate hearing your source.
