George Dickey Ire/PA Donald Maring post Apr 1998
George Dickey, militia captain in GA and later in Tryon/Rutherford Co NC: George's murder by Indians may have been about 1780 - However, his widow Martha Johnston Dickey did not receive Letters of Admn. on his estate until July 1782; she returned the inventory of estate July 1782 - same month and year as LA.
George's brother Anthony in his 1832 Pension Declaration (based on his memory age 87) gave the date of Geo's death about 12 May 1778. That seems a long time before Martha filed for LA. The date remains moot. Published dates have shown 2 May 1780; the bible for family indicated that date.
Noted your info re 1778 list (I too have it) and Martha's applying 1778. Correcting this data based on Pleas & Qtr. Sessions minutes July 1782 Rutherford Co NC.
