I have a reference to one Lewis H. Dickey of SC, earlier than yours, but possibly related.

There is a RW pension application (S6,798) for David Dickey, born Augusta Co, VA in 1747, who was living in Tryon Co, now Rutherford Co, NC when he volunteered in 1775. He mentions living on the frontier between NC and the Indians. "I was a Volunteer through the whole Revolutionary War." "In my first Service we had no general Officers. When there was an alarm we gathered in small parties and some one of the Company Took the Command and we all Served under his Direction untill Dismissed but on the Towers that I served out I was under the Officers above named and also at the Siege of Charleston under Genl Lee & Col Archibald Lytle."

As of 1839 he was residing in Greenville, SC, with a son L. H. Dickey.

In 1831, Mrs Bridget Davis, formerly of Rutherford Co, NC, died at home of son-in-law L. H. Dickey at Greenville District, SC.

David was the son of James [March 1713, Ire--1792, Rutherford Co, NC], father of Isabel, George, Margaret, Anthony, David, Moses. If so, then the Dickeys stopped in Augusta Co, VA on their way from PA to NC. David married Mary (Heslip) McFadin (1755-1827).

I have L. H. Dickey as Lewis H. Is it possible that your Hiram Lewis was a son or nephew of this Lewis H.? I never followed this line because my research was going in another direction. I have problems finding an appropriate "Margaret" to be his grandmother.

E-mail me at dmaring@hotmail.com with your thoughts or other data. Perhaps this can be solved quickly.
