According to the family lineage started by my greatgrandmother, "George Dickey, Sr., married Margaret Miller, daughter of Abram Miller and Mary Yarnall Miller, whose parents came to Ohio from Washington or Berks County, PA. He established on the Elkhorn, or Elk Creek (as it is now known), the first wollen mill in that section. He also, at one time, operated an oil mill. His oldest child, Samuel Miller Dickey, was born in Butler County, Ohio on 3/11/1818. He was an indian trader in his younger days...". In another part of the lineage she wrote "George (Dickey), Son of Samuel, born Franklin Co.,KY, 10/8/1794; died at Eaton, Ohio in 1892. Married Margaret Miller, born 10/8/1796. Died 7/23/1851 & buried at Elk Creek Cemetery."
According to my grandmother, her mother got all this information by writing to city/county offices that keep records and correstponded with others through a "round robin" exchange of information. So I don't know exactly where the information came from.
I confirmed most of this information through internet searches. One that was very helpful was "Madison Township; bicentennial sketches (1799-1999) by George C. Crout (web address MAY be www.middle-america.org/crout/madison/biblio.html). I also have print outs titled "Madison Township: pages 603-606" and also "pages 594-596". (The first one seems to have more info that I was interested in.)I have a print out of Elk Creek Cemetery that shows three Dickey family members but Margaret Miller Dickey is not one of them (but there are only 8 names on the list so I know there are many more).
I did most of this several years ago when I was off work for a week after an injury and have not had enough time since then to see what else I can find. If you have any info to share, I would love to have it. I only have one child per ancestor that my lineage follows down to us, so I know I am missing a lot.
If I can be of anymore help to you, please let me know.
Thanks,
Mickey
