Chelsey A. Dickerson was the younger brother of Samuel Dickerson. The lives of both men are recorded in the "History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon Co., IL" (1876) by John Carroll Power.

Samuel Dickerson was born about 1793 in Virginia. According to the history, his parents moved him to Pendleton Co., KY where his father (un-named) engaged in the salt making business at Grant's Lick. Samuel married Susan Kain who was born about 1800. In 1830 the family moved to Logan Co., Illinois and in the following year they moved to Sangamon Co., IL along with Samuel's brother Chesley.

Kentucky records offer a slight varieation. Census and tax records suggeet the Dickersons came from Fayette Co., Kentucky and settled in Campbell County which is next to Pendleton Co., KY. An Archer Dickerson mentioned as residing in Campbell county as early as 1800 near Fowler's Lick a salt mine. Campbell county marriages also show the marraige of Samuel's brother Chesley to Betsy Lillard in 1826, a marriage corroborated by the Sangamon 1876 history. Samuel's marriage to Susan Kain has not been found nor has any Kain family.

Samuel & Susan (Kain) Dickerson had issue:
Hugh; Mary Eliza; Archibald; Chesley Alexander; Malinda; Henry Clay; Frances; and William.

Chesley & Betsy (Lillard) had issue:
William, Frances; Erastus; and Maria

Is anyone working on this line???
