This is in response to the earlier queries relating to Thompson Dickerson and the query from Mr. James E. Dickerson about his Clinton County, Kentucky ancestor named Jesse Dickerson. Unfortunately, I do not have immediate access to my Dickerson files, so much of what I write will be drawn from memory and may therefore be skewed a bit. I believe, however, that there is a great deal of evidence to suggest that Jesse R. Dickerson (born in Greenville, South Carolina in about 1795) is closely connected to the other Greenville Dickersons and specifically to Thompson Dickerson. It is apparent that many researchers are aware of the Virginia origins of this family. Thompson is found in the Henry County, Virginia court records along with Nelson, David, Charles, Thomas, John, William, Jemima, and Mary Dickerson. From the naming patterns and evidence found in the census records, I would say the family was originally from the central Virginia area (Louisa, Hanover, Caroline, and Spottsylvania Counties). Jesse served in the War of 1812 from South Carolina under the command of Thomas Dickerson - unquestionably a kinsman. He travelled with his family from S.C. to Georgia, then to the Chattanooga, Tennessee area, and he ends his days in Clinton County, Kentucky. I know too that he was an active Baptist churchman, and that he made his living as a cabinet/wagon maker. His first wife was Sarah Duvall from South Carolina and his second was Jane Bell whom her married in Kentucky. In all of his travels, children and cousins dropped off to settle permanently in Georgia and the other sites where he lived. I was very interested to see that one of the GenForum responses came from a gentleman who says that he has information about some of the children of Thompson. Would he be kind enough to share that information with me? Thanks. Rick Gann
