Hello Allan,
Unfortunately, I do not have much info prior to 1850. My ggg-grandfather was Robert Dickerson. He was born in 1801 in SC, then moved to KY, then on to MO where he died before 1876.
Some allied families that might be relevant are Wheeler, Hughey, Thomson, Swift, Whittaker, Bishop, Long, and Smith.
I know there are other Dickerson/Dickenson/etc. DNA matches for you on Family Tree DNA. It is the Dickason/Dickenson/... group. I am in group E. You might try to contact some others and see if they have any information going back farther.
