Justin - I believe that the 1850 Lawrence Twp., Marion Co., IN Dickersons were descendants of Robert Dickerson. Robert Dickerson was a veteran of the Revolutionary War, stating in his deposition of 24 Sep 1828 in Marion Co., IN that he was aged 69. He died between 24 Sep 1828 and 14 Oct 1830, when his heirs sell land to Elijah Dawson. The transaction names Robert's children: Marion Co., Indiana Deed Book _?; pgs 11, 12, 13: Oct. 14, 1830 William Dickerson et al to Elijah Dawson William Dickerson and Nancy his wife, Alexander Dickerson and Anna his wife, John Arnold and Drusilla his wife, Barrett Parrish and Sarah his wife, John Sargent and Mary his wife, James Harmon and Philadelphia his wife, and Ruth Lane, all of state of Indiana . This land descended on the devisees of the said Robert Dickerson estate. Son William Dickerson married Nancy Corn 5 Oct 1815 in Franklin Co., IN - Robert was listed in the 1820 census there, as well as a tax payer in the same place in 1822. William d. prior to 1850 - although the 1850 Lawrence Twp., Marion Co., IN shows a tick mark next to Nancy's name as being married within the year, you might notice that many persons enumerated (including infants) show this mark. (I think the census taker was using that column for some other reason.) William & Nancy had a son, George who settled in Christian Co., IL. In 1850, Mariah Harmon is in his household. Court records show that George was Mariah's guardian. Mariah was the daughter of Hiram & Ruth (Parrish) Harmon of Marion/Boone Co.'s, IN, who had moved to the Shelby/Christian counties area by 1840. Hiram died bet. 1837 and 1840, his widow, Ruth, remarried. I'm guessing that George Dickerson was some type of cousin to Mariah. On the monument for the Rev. War veteran, Robert Dickerson, his wife is listed as "Nancy (Booth) Parish." Was Nancy married to a Mr. Parrish prior to her m. to Robert? Would love to explore and discuss these very interesting families with you. Lynnea Dickinson Notify Administrator about this message?
