Thanks Mark.
I was about to respond to your first here, when your second message came in. This is excellent. Your two messages here made it possible for me to reassemble this family and explain several relationships.
Are you connected in some way to these people? Below are some details of these families, and if you need more, please e-mail me.
The Edwin S. Dickerson of Pennsauken/Merchantville NJ is the son of Dr. Edwin George Parker Dickerson of Snow Hill, Worcester Co., Maryland.Dr, Edwin G. P. Dickerson was bornAugust 6, 1832, and died on 4 April 1865. We think he and his youngest son died of typhoid, contracted during the war... he worked as a physician for the army (contract, not enlisted). He is buried in All Hallows Episcopal Church Cemetery, Snow Hill, Worcester County, Maryland.
Dr, Edwin George Parker Dickerson was married to Virginia Sallie Maria Tingle 1830-1911. I don't know who her parents were. They were married on 27 April 1857, Worcester County, Maryland and had:
i. William PDickerson 1859 (the 'P' is probably "Parker");
ii. SallieDickerson 1860 --she became a schoolteacher;
iii. JennieDickerson 1862;
iv. Edwin McKnightDickerson b. 24 April 1864; d. 7 February 1865, bur. All Hallows Episcopal Church Cemetery, Snow Hill MD;
v. Edward aka Eugene 1866 --the one who moved to NJ, details of whom you have found. He was probably "Eugene Edward" or "Eugene Edwin" --it would have been important for one of the sons here to have a name Edward or Edwin. This given name had been passed down in every generation since Edward Dickerson came into Maryland around 1660.
Virginia (Jennie) S.M. Tingle, wife of Dr, Edwin G.P. Dickerson, never remarried. She died on 29 December 1911 and was buried in All Hallows Episcopal Church Cemetery, Snow Hill, Worcester Co., Maryland.
Dr, Edwin George Parker Dickerson was the son of Dr. Parker Dickerson, who died between 1837 and 1840 in Worcester County Maryland. Parker marriedEliza. A Miles on 30 April 1817. They had:
i. Mary Elizabeth Dickerson 1820-1904 -- my 3ggrandmother, who married William T Fleming and lived in Princess Ann;
ii. Henrietta Dickerson bet. 1820/1825 --no further info;
iii. Caroline Dickerson bet. 1820/1825 --no further info;
iv. Sarah A. Dickerson ca 1830 --married Samuel R Jackson on 20 February 1849 and had Emma C, Mollie A. and Ada Jackson;
v. Edwin George Parker Dickerson 1832-1865 (above) -md.Virginia Sallie Maria Tingle (Jennie).
I don't know who was the 14-year-old Williamanna Tingle living in the household of Edwin Dickerson in Snow Hill in 1860. It's possible she was a younger sister or other relation of Virginia (Jennie) SM Tingle, wife of Edwin GP Dickerson.
The Woodward info is marvelous. I can see how a phosphate dealer of Philadelphia would have been connected with the Snow Hill Dickersons. Our people of Eastern Shore Maryland did seem to have many connections in and near Philadelphia.
Edwin GP Dickerson's older sister, Mary Elizabeth Dickerson, married William T Fleming, a gentleman farmer of Princess Ann Maryland. Their daughter Mary Anne Fleming (1851-1930) married CD Dale of Pocomoke City; their son William Dale was a 29-year-old policeman in Philadelphia by 1900. Living with this William Dale in 1900 were his younger brother Charles Raymond Dale, and cousins William and Francis Fleming, ages 23 and 22, sons of Mary Anne Fleming's brother William "Frank" Fleming (1841-1897) of Accomack County, Virginia.
Ella Dale (1874-1949 -- sister of the William Dale, Philadelphia policeman), both children of Mary Anne Fleming (1851-1930) and CD Dale, married CBE Holten of Middletown Delaware in 1898. They lived first in Philadelphia, then moved to South Jersey. So, the Edwin George Parker Dickerson of Merchantville/Pennsauken NJ was a great-uncle of my great-grandmother, Ella Dale Holten.
Thanks very much for this very fine help. If you need anything, please let me know.
Liz
