Thomas, Jr. settled in Grandview Twp.,Washington Co., Ohio between 1795 and 1797. He bought a farm from his cousin Henry Dickerson who had purchased it from a Mr. Shepard. Thomas's wife Margaret Davis passed about 1822 and is believed buried in the Wheeling area with other family. Thomas passed in 1827 and his burial site is unknown. Thomas served with the 8th Pennsylvania during the Revolution. Before making the decision Thomas and some of his brothers explored sites in Kentucky and other sites along the Ohio river. He found most of the good sites taken and then chose Washington county, Ohio. Thomas raised his family in Ohio and there are direct descendants still living there. His farm was bi-sected by a highway project and is no longer in the family. Kinzer (Kinzie to some) wound up in the Danville, Illinois area. Please note there are multiple Vachel's over several generations. He was also noted or notorious as an Indian fighter. Check on the exploits of John Wetzel to learn more.
