Dickenson, 86, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN. She was born April 2, 1929, in Castlewood, VA, daughter of the late Gaines Combs and Ethel May Dorton Osborne. She was a graduate of Temple Hill High School Class of 1942 and attended Milligan College and Radford College. A community minded person throughout her life, she was active in many civic and charitable organizations, serving as a 4-H leader for many years. At the time of her death she served on the Board of Directors of the Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens and the Historical Society of Russell County. She was a member of Fort Gibson United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Gose Dickenson, Sr. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Combs Dickenson; three sons, Gaines Wade Dickenson and wife Lynda, Charlie Gose Dickenson, Jr. and wife Barbara, and Mark Osborne Dickenson and wife Joan, all of Castlewood, VA; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Hope Dickenson Couch, Gaines Wade Dickenson, II, Melissa Dickenson, Rebecca Dickenson, Jessica Dickenson Murthy, Katy Dickenson Elsea, Angela Dickenson, and Juli Anna Dickenson Clark; eight great- grandchildren, Alex Couch, Ben Couch, Lauren Elizabeth Hope Couch, Ella Grace Coburn, Nalan Murthy, Wynn Murthy, Clara Hope Elsea, and Dylan Clark; and several beloved cousins and their families. The family extends a special thanks to devoted friends, Venus Blevins and Michael Collins. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2012, in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, VA. Funeral Services for Hope O. Dickenson will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 19, 2012, in Fort Gibson United Methodist Church, 30 Church Street, Castlewood, VA, with Rev. Harry Layell and Mr. S. A. Fraley officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, VA. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Pallbearers will be John Dickenson Adams, Tom Cook, Waldo Dorton, Dallas Hubbard, Jeff Sutton, and Sherman Wallace. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ned Coleman, Michael Collins, Harry Dickenson, and Dr. Erik Swensson. In keeping with her wishes and in honor of her commitment to children and youth, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Southwest 4-H Center, 25236 Hillman Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210, or the United Methodist Holston Home for Children, P.
