I know of a slave trading company based in Memphis, TN (Bolton, Dickens & Co) that were supposedly the largest slave traders in the world in their day. They were not FROM Richmond VA, but they DID have branch offices in many locations, including Richmond, New Orleans, Vicksburg, Mobile, Charleston, & Lexington. They operating from abt. 1847 to 1857. They supposedly inspired the writing of "Uncle Tom's Cabin", when Harriet Beecher Stowe caught a glimps of one of the firm's huge warehouse signs advertising it's "trade" during a boat trip on the Mississippi River.
