Tracy,
Sorry for the delay in responding to the Jonathan Randolph Dicken Msg. There is historic accounts on the Dicken homestead posted in local newspapers and the word Dodge to my knowledge is not mentioned. If it is true, Dodge is probably as elusive to track as of today as Amos's fathers name (James/John) or Dorcus's last name.
There is however evoling stronger evidence as to Dorcus's maiden name of Hendrix. Sources now quote a family bible on the Hendrix side that records the marriage of Amos and Dorcus. In addition, both lived in the York Co., Pa. Strewsbury Twsp. area as possible neighbors. Since we know that Amos was a member of the York County Militia during the Rev. War and the Hendrix's have a rich York County, Strewsbury Twsp. history, the pieces of the puzzle may start to fit. Dorcus's father was Adam Smith Hendrix and she had sister's by the name of Tanner and Ruth. So the family names evolved as well. For additonal information go to Ancestry.com and check out Scott Troutman's genealogy research under the surname "Hendrix".
As to Randoloph vs Hendrix for Jonathan's middle name, the mystery continues as no one to my knowledge has verified his middle name. Even with numerous probate and other legal records, his middle name is missing.
Keep in touch,
Jim
