Duck, Dück, Dueck, Dyck, Dick(s)
Duck Dück Dueck Dyck Dick(s)
I have THREE cousin lines that I am seeking more
info on, and THREE direct lines that I am seeking
more info on. My family records show that our
large German-Russian Mennonite branch originated
in Holland using the spelling Dyck, then to Germany
where they changed the spelling to Dück, then to
Russia where it was Dueck, then mid 1850's to late
1890's they branched out arriving in Canada where
they went by Dyck and the rest arrived in America
where many changed the spelling to Dick. It seems
that they changed at each new location in order to
maintain the pronounciation. This history of the
spelling used has only been traced on the one line
out of the six I am including here. The Ger-Rus
Mennonite group is giant so I will only list the
families they married into under each spelling.
