Bert, I have additional information that will help with the "Indian Princess" story. I found a letter that my Grandmother wrote to me when I was in high school, writing a paper on my family history. The following is quoted from that letter. "My Grandpa Dick born in 1838 and married my Grandma whose family name was (Jemima) Hickerson. She (Jemima) being a great grand daughter of an Indian Squaw. This whole part of the country was Indian Country" She is referring to "Putman County, Ohio, along the Blanchard River." (My added parentheses) Additionally, referring to my ancestery chart, I have names for three of Jemima Hickerson's four great grandmothers. The fourth is not known. Her grand mother in that branch is given as Elizabeth C. I do not know the last name. It is possible that her mother is the "Indian Squaw/Princess". One possible tribe in that area would be Shawnee Indians. Iroquois would be another possibility. The two didn't get along and the Iroquois drove the Shawnee out (to Illinois). They later returned. There were also Ottawa, Wyandot, and Miami tribes. There were multiple clans of each tribe. Most of these tribes wer in the area in the mid to late 1700, so the timing is right. See http://www.ohiohistorycentral.org/entry.php?rec=631 for detail. I hope this helps. Richard Notify Administrator about this message?
