Your Grandmother Dorothy and my Grandmother, Jemima Ferne Otto were sisters. I too, have heard the story that Jemima (not Jenmaia)Hickerson was an American Indian. My memory is fading as it's been so long ago, but Cherokee runs in my mind. I do question that this is actually true as I have several generation of this family with no indian sounding names.

I am very interested in any additional information that you may have. I know nothing about their Father Franklin P. Otto other than he was born about 1866 and that he died in late 1945 or early 1946. My sister said that she was a tiny baby when he died and she was born in February of 1945. I was born in 1946 and it was before I was born. Our Grandmothers were separated when Lovadia (not Laveda) died. I have no idea when she died, but they were very young. My Grandmother was raised by Frank and your Grandmother was raised by (I think) Lovadia's sister Annie.
Lovadia's Father was William Dick and he married Jemima Hickerson on 8 April 1860. That is all that I know about him.

Frank Otto's parents were Edward Otto and Relefy. I do not know her maiden name. Edward was born about 1843 in Ohio and died 26 Sep 1905 in Handcock County, Ohio He is buried at McComb Cemetery, State Road # 613, McComb, Pleasant Township, Hancock County, Ohio, Lot 33, Section 3, Grave Number 4, with a Military Headstone. He was a private in Company C., 120th Regiment, Ohio Volunteers during the Civil War. He fought at Vicksburg, Mississippi and Louisiana. He was taken prisoner and sent to a prison in Texas for the rest of the war. He suffered from some sort of chest or lung condition from prison and was on a military pension. I have a photocopy of his service record and Relefy's application for his pension. Relefy died 21 Apr 1908.
This is all that I know about the Ottos and Dicks. I can take Jemima Hickerson's family back several generations.
If you will e-mail me, I will sent the pedigree chart to you.
