Some information on the name Dick of Forkhill and which may be of help to someone! -- John Dick, farmer and miller, leased a 21 acre farm in 1798. We know of two sons - William Dick b.1786 and James Dick b.1779. William Dick was married to Jane? and their children were:- Barbara b.1811 John b.1813 William b.1816 James b.1820 Samuel b.1822 (this is assumed as the others are listed in the 1821 Forkhill Census). Apart from Samuel who went to Australia, we know nothing of the others. James Dick was married to Elizabeth Lockhart and their children were:- Faithful b.1805 Barbara b.1807 Anne b.1809 John b.1811 Samuel b.1812 George b.1815 James b.1817 (There may have been children born after the 1821 Census). George Dick b.1815 m. Eliza Carpenter and their children were:- 1)Charlotte E. Dick 1850 - 1910 2)George Dick 1858 - 1910 who m. Mary Stewart and they had a dau. Georgina Mary Dick b.1904 3)John Dick 1863 - 1906 4)James Dick 1849 - 1907 who m. Frances O'Neill and they had a son Frederick George Dick b.1893. Returning to James Dick b.1779, we suspect one of his sons (Samuel, John or James) married a Murdock (Carrickasticken family):- Their known children were Barbara Dick b.1843 and John Murdock Dick b.1846. John Murdock Dick m. Mary J. Stewart at Forkhill in 1874. He has been relatively easy to check as he always ensured his full name and "Forkhill" were on Census of England and other documents (he was a soldier). The children of John Murdock Dick and Mary J. Stewart were:- 1)Ann Emma Dick b.1877 Armagh. 2)John Murdock Dick b.1882 Colchester, Essex. 3)Helen Dick b.1890 India. 4)Susan V. Dick b.1893 India. Would be grateful to learn about any of the above.
