Benjamin Dick

I am looking for the ancestors of Benjamin Dick/Dicks b. abt. 1827. In 1850 he is Benjamin "Dick" living alone in Henry Co., VA and is listed as a shoemaker.

In 1860 he is "Benjamin Dicks" living in Franklin Co., VA and is married to Mary J. Semones with children James William Dicks and Beatrice Dicks. Also in the home is a Joseph H. Dicks age 21.

Benjamin Dick/Dicks entered the Civil War in Franklin Co., VA and died in 1862 from wounds.

In 1900 Franklin Co., VA, Benjamin's son, James William "Dicks" is married to Lucy ? (possibly Whitworth) and their children are John Cook Dicks, James William Dicks, Jr., Benjamin Stone Dicks, and Roland Swanson Dicks.

On later census reports all but Benjamin Stone Dicks show up as "Dix".

Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

Beth Dix
