James Dick of Alamance was not a relative of Hannah Sophia Dick. James Dick was a member of the Scots-Irish Presbyterian Dick family which settled in the area in the 1760's. I descend from them. There was also an English Quaker Dicks/Dix family which settled in the Guilford/Randolph area in the 1750's, and my husband descends from that group. There is no connection on this side of the Atlantic between these family groups. Also, while it may seem strange to some that there were three different groups in the area at the same time, one has to remember that there were many people moving into the Guilford area about that time, and there were other Dick/Dicks/Dix family groups in the Carolinas and Virginia during the same time period. The surname and its variations appeared more often than some would think.
